AJC Chairman’s Handicap

The AJC (Australian Jockey Club) Chairman’s Handicap is an excellent Group 2 thoroughbred race conducted at the Royal Randwick in New South Wales during the annual Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Held as part of the elite racing action of Australian Derby Day, which runs on a Saturday in early April, the Group 2 Chairman’s Handicap is a staying race conducted over 2600m under open handicap conditions.

With prize money set at $150,000, the Chairman’s Handicap is an important event on the autumn racing calendar as the winner is exempt from ballot for the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) held a fortnight later.

BRC Chairman’s Handicap

The BRC Chairman’s Handicap is a highly anticipated Group 3 thoroughbred race held as part of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Taking place on the official opening meeting of the carnival in mid-May, the Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap is run over 2020m and is one of three Group status races held on the day.

The highlight event is the $400,000 Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m), which is the first Group 1 event held in Brisbane each year, and the other feature is the $125,000 Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2020m).

The BTC Cup Day and the Chairman’s Handicap are run at Doomben Racecourse, which is one of Brisbane’s two premier racing venues, the other being Eagle Farm.

The Chairman’s Handicap is conducted by the Brisbane Racing Club (BRC).
