Tomorrow a line-up of great races will kick start the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival at Doomben, including the $100,000 Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap (2020m).
This year 16 classy runners plus two possible emergencies are engaged in the feature, headlined by the pre-race favourite Tabulate.
Despite drawing wide with barrier 14 the experienced five-year-old gelding is still the top elect currently at $4.60 with Ladbrokes.com.au.
A local hope from the Eagle Farm stable of Robert Heathcote, Tabulate will be ridden by Jim Byrne tomorrow as they aim for their fourth consecutive win.
Two other horses gaining popularity with the punters that could possibly jump as the favourite by the race’s start are The Embassy and Dandaad.
Currently the second favourite at $5.50, the Chris Waller-trained The Embassy is an improving four-year-old who was the biggest winner in the barrier draw with gate one.
Legendary mentor Bart Cummings trains the $6.50 third elect, Dandaad. The six-year-old gelding has drawn barrier 13 for tomorrow and will have Luke Nolen aboard.
Encosta Tszyu represents excellent value in the Chairman’s Handicap. Currently at the generous odds of $17, the Encosta De Lago gelding ran an eye catching second to Tabulate last start in the Listed Tails Stakes (2150m), has plenty of ability at this distance and will start from barrier eight.
Another runner who could cause an upset at good odds is three-year-old Show A Heart gelding Fifteen Carat, stepping up to 2020m for the first time in his 10 race career.
The Gold Coast-based youngster is paying $12 at the moment with Ladbrokes.com.au with trainer Howard Wilson confident he can match it with the older Chairman’s Handicap runners.
Meanwhile Group 3 Launceston Cup winner Larry’s Never Late (barrier 16) also has claims at $15.
The premier event on at Doomben’s Racefest tomorrow is the $400,000 Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) where four-year-old mare Ortensia will jump as the favourite.
Great betting action can also be found with the $125,000 Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2020m) where a number of quality three-year-olds are on their way to the prestigious $500,000 Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) on AAMI Stradbroke Day at Eagle Farm on June 12.
